Depression is more than just sadness. We all get sad from time to time. Depression feels more like darkness or emptiness or an invisible force that robbed us of our joy. It can feel like grief or loss that won’t end. Many people describe depression as a period of several days or weeks where they feel completely unlike themselves. They may say, “It feels like someone else is living my life”, or “I don’t recognize the person in the mirror anymore”. Others may say, “I used to enjoy those things, but I just can’t anymore. I feel numb. I don’t feel anything”. Depression can lie to you and tell you that you’d be better off dead or that you’re a burden to your family.
